Correct Disc Format for Photo Story

D

derek

I have been putting together a short video of photos using Photo
Story. This has gone fine except for recording to disc. I have been
using both CD-RW and CD-R. When I have used these for recording data
I have formatted them first with Roxio, which came with the Dell
computer and Windows XP. However, if I insert a formatted disc with
Photo Story it is ejected with the instruction to insert a disc into
the drive. If I use a new, unformatted disc it records correctly with
either type of disc. However, if I wish to re-use the CD-RW disc I
cannot just delete the file but have to re-format. It will then work
for data storage but not for Photo Story. Please, what am I doing
wrong?

Thanks for the reply Yves
I have looked through most of the papajohn site in your link but can
find nothing directly concened with the formatting of discs. Also
most of the info seems to be concerned with DVDs not VCDs. My version
of Photo Story tells me that I should create VCDs, is this correct or
should I be using DVDs?

Not sure why you formatted the CD. Personally
I find they work best right out of the package.

What you need is software that can create a
VCD (Video CD) using the .wmv movie file
created by PhotoStory.

Maybe the 14 day trial version of WinDVD
from the Corel site would be worth a try.

Also...you mentioned DVDs.
If you have a DVD burner...you can
create DVDs from the PhotoStory
..wmv files as well. The same WinDVD
software should work for that also.

Thanks for the reply John,
I have been using the bilt-in CD burner with Photo Story. As as
mentioned originally this works fine with a new disc straight from the
packet but not with one which has been formatted using Roxio. As I
hve a DVD burner I tried using a DVD (both DVD-R and DVD-RW) and got
the message "Photo Dtory does not support creating DVDs. Insert a
blank CD into the drive".

The Roxio thing you're using does what's called "packet writing," which
is a way of trying to make optical media do things they weren't designed
to do. It's an unpredictable process and should never be used for
anything important. Use Roxio to burn a CD-R or -RW (which can still be
erased) without using the packet-writing feature.

Raymond,Thanks for the info.
Please, how do I turn off the "packet burning" feature?

Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and look for DLA or Drive
Letter Access in the list of programs and uninstall it.
