I've seen conflicting information regarding the advantages of
ReadyBoost. For this Dell Core Duo laptop it's trivial to leave
a 1GB SD card in the appropriate slot - but would there be a net
gain, or not?

Everything depends on how you use the computer. This is why you see a lot of
conflicting information. With 2GB of RAM, you will need to do some very
heavy multi-tasking or gaming to really stress the system.

It wasn't that long ago when we were wondering about going from 16 to 32
"MB" of RAM. <g>

ReadyBoost does not do anything to assist or compensate for processor speed
so the type or speed of processor is irrelevant. What it does do ... well,

Um, that was about 10 years ago!

How time flies when we're having fun.

Readyboost will boost up your disk performance and in my opinion it would be
most pronounced in a laptop where the hard disk is not a speed star. Maybe
your Windows Experience Index score can help you for your decision. If the
lowest value is the disk score you may consider using a readyboost device.
