HI all,
About a week ago I tried to change the bootscreen on my computer, using
these steps:

1: extract new bootscreen file (ntoskrnl.exe) to a new folder
2: restart and enter SafeMode to get past windows file protection
3: make backup copy of original ntoskrnl.exe file to new folder
4: overwrite original with the new bootscreen
5: restart computer

On restarting I get this message:
Windows cannot start because the following file is either missing or
corrupt: ntfs.sys

Then there are some instructions on how to fix it with the XP Disc, which I
don't have since mine doesn't work.
I have been trying to figure this out on my own and have come to the
conclusion that if I can get the orginal ntoskrnl.exe file back to where it
was my computer should be fixed. Are there any programs that I can boot
from that will allow me to do this, I have found a few, but they don't allow
writing to the NTFS partition, only FAT*

Thanks for any help. I have XP Home SP2

First - ntoskrnl.exe is not a "bootcreen file" it is the nt kernel, as
important as any other file in the OS. main function is to load devices and
drivers per registry settings.
You mentioned "new bootscreen file..." - new from where and how? Suggest you
"google" ntsokrnl for options.
