Sorry riverdogs
It is you that have got the wrong end of the stick. Show me any post
over the last 7 years where I have advocated using OE system generated
folders as archives. I was an early voice against using "Compact
messages in the background", promoting other methods of compacting and
stressing the need to be Offline. When I first joined these newsgroups
it was to learn about Outlook Express. How to avoid some of the
pitfalls presented by the way Outlook Express worked was a lesson
learnt in 2000.
My first post cautioning against using "Compact messages in
background"

My first post recommending creating user created Mail folder for
messages from Inbox.

Your statement regarding "all the MS-MVP" is also of doubtful
authenticity, especially with regard to the period immediately after
"Compact messages in background" was introduced. The reality was some
did and some did not. Not all were immediately aware of the problems
the change caused. The benefit from being Offline was not immediately
understood by some for several months. It was only as a result of
efforts made by Steve Cochran, Tom Koch and some others that users
generally became aware of the causes of lost mail in these early days.
In more recent years P.A. Bear has seldom missed an opportunity to
make the point about archiving. I make this point not to criticise any
MS-MVP, who was engaged in helping users in other ways, but to merely
to clarify what actually happened

Hope this helps.
