Copying to CD

My wife noticed a problem last night with our computer. She was trying to
copy a file for work to a CD and was not allowed to do so. Whenever she
tried she got an error message saying " D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect
function. "
The drive seems to work to play games and things like that but will not
allow files to be copied to the D drive.
Anybody have any clues ?

A common problem with CD's that I have seen is that the session was not
closed on the cd by the writing software and the reader cannot open an open
session

Sorry to be so ignorant about these things but could you explain what you
mean ? I am not real computer savvy.

I am copying to a CD_R 700MB CD. Is that what you were asking ?
To copy to the CD I am just right clicking the file and clicking Send To
and then the D: drive.

And your drive is a CD-RW capable drive?

It worked previously using this method?

Is the "Recording tab" configured properly in the Proerties of this drive in
Explorer/My Computer?

If you put a blank (known good/blank) CD-R or CD-RW into the drive, then
open the drive letter in Explorer/My Computer - what message do you get?

How many different CD-R's have you tried?

Do you have any CD-RWs you could format?

Is there any other CD burning software on your machine that you use too?

Good, CD-R is the preferred media, are you finalizing the copy procedure see
below:

Files are only written to the CD when you take an explicit action. This may
be:
right-click on the drive’s icon and take Write files to CD; or,
open a window on the drive and take Write Files to CD in the Folder actions
to be seen in the bar on the left of the window.

In either case, all the files you previously selected are then written out
to the CD as a single track — in the ISO manner — and the disk is ejected.

This burning method is strictly for CD media only. There is no support at
all in the inbuilt burning for burning DVD media.

This seems to be an update for the built in CD burner in XP:

when burning a cd the software will often offer multisession as an option.
This allows you to write more files later but not all drives can read
multisession disks.

Thanks for the reply. I told ya I was a little ignorant about computers and
when you mentioned something about formatting the disc it jarred my memory.
Everything worked just fine after formatting the disc.

THANK YOU
