copying pix to cd-r

when i try to copy my pix to my new cd-r, a window pops up asking me to insert a disc into my drive although my cd-r is already in there

The burning software built into XP is for CDs ONLY. If you want to burn to
DVDs, even as a data DVD, then you'll have to use the third party software
that came (usually) with the DVD drive.

Try ejecting your CD-R (immediately after receiving this
message), and then re-insert it. Sometimes it will then
recognize the disk.
