Copying Outlook 2002 files from one computer to another

I would be most grateful if someone could give me
instructions on how to move my Outlook 2002 (all
necessary files, folders, messages, etc.) from one
computer to another. I have two email profiles on the
original machine. It seems like this should be a
reasonably simple, straightforward process but I have had
no luck at all. I have also seen several references to
using CD-RW rather than the simple CD-R when copying .pst
files. Is this an absolute requirement and, if so, why???

Not at all.
Just copy your PST file to any medium you want. The important part is that
when you're ready to use the PST, move it to a hard drive, remove its read
only attribute, and configure the new installation to use it as its default
PST.

I am interested in basically the same question relating to Outlook 2003 as a
part of Office 2003 Pro. I have no idea where to even start looking in which
folders or which files I need to copy. I have the two computers networked
(one desktop, the other laptop) and can copy from one to the other, but I
don't know what to copy. Would appreciate guidance. Thanks.

Copy the file whose type is ".pst" that is found, typically, in C:\Documents
and Settings\{user}\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
Better yet, right-click on the root of your "Personal Folders" file, click
Properties, then "Advanced" and look at the path of the PST. That's the
file you must copy.

Brian,
Thanks for the guidance. However, I did not find any ".pst" file on my
system. Then, when I looked in the C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder, I found two files:
"extend.DAT" and one labeled "Office Data File" but I could not find an
extension for it. Are these the files I need to copy? Or, is it simply the
"Office Data File?"
Appreciate your help.
Henry

OK, now the plot thickens. I have multiple .pst folders
and have copied them all to what I believe is the same
location on the hard drive on the new machine. Still no
access to old emails. What to do now???

Open each PST in Outlook until you find the one that has your data. Then
configure that PST as your default.

You didn't provide the steps that produced your problem. Makes it hard to
troubleshoot.

It might also be in C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook (no "Local Settings" subfolder). The best way to
find your pst is, however, to ask it as I described by right-clicking on
"Personal Folders" (or "Outlook Today"), choosing "Properties", then
"Advanced" and reading the location of the file.
