IN THE NEW WORD 2003, CAN YOU COPY OVER AN EXCEL SPREADSHEET OR WORKBOOK INTO A WORD FILE? IF YOU CAN, WILL THE EXCEL SPREADSHEET/WORKBOOK LOSE IT'S FUNCTIONALITY?

Yes you can, but in terms of functionality, I think you will lose the
ability apply formulas. But you insert the Workbook as an embedded object
into the Word document to retain its functionaility.

Please don't SHOUT!
You can insert an Excel object from file and it behaves exactly as it does
in Excel.
You can paste a link from a part of an Excel spreadsheet and provided both
the Excel sheet and the Word document are open, any change you make in Excel
will instantly be transferred to Word. If Wxcel isn't open, you can update
the link to update the displayed information.
Make the calculations in Excel and write text in Word.
