Copying old files to new drive

John

I have just done a new install of XP to a new 500gb sata hard drive in
the same system I had before. The old drive is a 120gb sata hard drive
and I need to copy all my files from this to the new drive.

When I connect this old drive back up to the second sata port and I am
within windows, I go to drive D documents and settings and try and go
in the John folder to get to My Documents to copy them across but it
comes up with an access is denied error message and wont let me into
the John folder. Does anyone know how I can undeny the access? ;)

It is windows xp pro sp2. I was set up as administrator on both
machines, same name, same computer name, same password etc.

Thanks

John

You need to disable Simple File Sharing and take ownership of
the files. Take a look at these articles for more info:

Click Start / Help, then search for help on "Ownership".

Most of your reply refers to sharing files between machines.
However, the OP wishes to copy files from one disk to
another while both disks are connected to the SAME machine.
Concepts such as "Simple File Sharing" do not apply in this case.
