copying info from old .pst file to a new one?

Hello all!

Perhaps a stupid question, but cannot find a reply. I have an Outlook 2003
and all my information (mails, calendar, contacts, etc.) are stored in
Personal Folders.pst file.

This very file was created a long time ago in Outlook 97 and it remains the
Outlook 97-2000 type. Now the size of the file is too big, while archiving
cannot really help as I need to have all time immedite access to the data
within the last 2 years.

I understand that converting the old .pst file to a new version , Outlook
2003 .pst may help.So I created a new file, made it default for my e-mail
accounts, but I need now to copy somehow all the data, including the
calendar and contacts from the old file to a new one.
Is there any such an option to do it?

Of course, I can try to "move" all the messages from the old folders to new
ones (It will take few days though :) ) and copy all the contacts. But I
don't know how to copy calendar items.

And, perhaps, there is a simplier option to do such a change?

Thanks in advance,

Evgen

To copy items like Calendar you would need to change the View to a table
type i.e Categories and drag and drop, one way to move all the data is via
the import route but it isnt recommended because of potential settings and
data loss. Copying is the preferred method. Tip if you right click and drag
you will get the option to move or copy.

You can use Import, but its not reccomended. - can result in problems

You can also archive all of a specific year, eg 2004 and then have that
archive open in OL.
It is possible to have multiple pst's open - An archive is simply a pst
If using multiple archives, ensure you name them, and use the correct
archive settings/file in your primary pst

I have noticed this recently. When I put old pst files created by/for
my current profile in my Outlook folder (the folder where my pst files
are stored) and then run Yahoo Desktop Search and use its options to
have my Outlook E-Mail searched, that program(YDS) seems to take it
upon itself to add those files as additional Personal Folders in my
Outlook. I have no idea if this is because of some peculiarity of my
computer. And I don't want YSD to do this.
But, perhaps you would?

You have a couple of choices. One is to create a second PST and move some
of the data to it.

Open the calendar, switch to a table view, like By Category, select the
first item, then select them all with CTRL-A. Click Edit>Copy to Folder and
specify the new calendar as the destination.
