copying files from Handycam to computer for editing and burning on

I have a Sony DVD HandyCam - DVD DCR605E with Nero (StartSmart) burning
software. The Handycam formats all the files into VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO
and VIDEO_TS.VOB.
I would like to use Windows Movie Maker (WMM) for editing and combining four
30min disks/data onto a single standard DVD disk (as these features are not
supported on Nero StartSmart). Unfortunately, WMM does not recognise *.bup,
*.ifo and *.vob files.

Any solution or suggestion most welcome.

Use Nero to take the videos off the DVD first.
Open Nero StartSmart.
Click on Photo and Video
Click on Convert DVD-Video Movies to Nero Digital
