I am trying to copy all my files (data and programs) over from my old
Dell computer to a new NEC computer, using a multi-head
serial/parallel cable, using the serial or parallel ports on both
machines. The reason for my method is that I currently back up using
Travan Tapes on the Dell. I have about 1GB of files now and have no
CDROM or DVD write facilities or network. While some of the programs I
can install from the original windows 95 CDROM's and diskettes, some
have been downloaded and are too big to tranfer via diskettes.
The Dell is Windows 95 with 16MB of RAM and the NEC is Windows XP
with 1 GB of RAM
According to an article in PC Advisor, the XP transfer wizard does not
let you copy programs, so that is out. I tried emailing one of the
programs as an attachment but Internet Explorer will not let me access
it, claiming it is dangerous.
Also the Direct cable connection program under Windows 95 mentions
only accessing, which implies only reading.
Any suggestions please?
