Can anyone tell me exactly how to copy movie DVDs to other DVDs, so I
can have spares of the movies that I own in order to be able to take the
copies with me on a trip? They seem to have copyright protection, and
I've read instructions on how to rip them to AVI files that can be
played on a computer, but I can't figure out how to copy them to new
DVDs that can be played in a DVD player just like the originals.

DVD Shrink is freeware, Does the job you want.

Problem you run into and the solutions:

1. Original is encrypted.
Use DVD Decrypter or DVD Fab Decrypter to decrypt to the HDD, then burn with
DVD Shrink @ zero-50% shrinkage as required.

2. Original not encrypted, but DVD9 is too large for DVD+R or -R
Use DVD Shrink to extract and shrink it to the HDD, then "Back Up" (burn).

Sometimes you have 1 of these, sometimes both. If encrypted (or "copy
protected", it must be decrypted first.
