copying command over the network not responding

Attempting to drag-and-drop to a network drive
causes 'drag' to stop responding. It leaves the computer
in a state that even ending drag or explorer cannot stop
the task. It never gets to 'copying files'. A reboot is
the only way to resume normally. I have attempted a cut-
and-paste with a similar outcome. Any help would be
appreciated.

when you drag your file over the network directory on the
left hand side of explorer, it attempts to access the
network drives as you pass over them. If you have a
disconnected drive, then it will try for a long time to
try and connect before moving on. This can make it seem as
if the system has hung.

To get around this you can try the following.

Open two explorer windows and tile them side by side.
(right click on the task bar and select the Tile Windows
option)
Next select the desired 'drop' location in one of the
windows so that it's showing on the screen.
Select the files to drag.
Drag them onto the selected directory.

good luck
