I tried to copy my winXP CD for a backup (okay with Dell) using only one CD
drive. I can't seem to create a bootable CD however. All the files transfer,
I think, but no go on the boot. My original boots fine. I'd use either WinXp
CD burning or Roxio 5. Thanks

Visit http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/software_updatesv5.jhtml
and download the latest update. Then use the Easy CD help section for
instructions on making a bootable CD.

Or you could ask "RoxAnn":

use the Roxio 'Disc Copier' (not Easy CD Creator)
it's located Start menu, Roxio Easy CD Creator, Applications, Disc Copier

correction: the Disc Copier is actually called 'CD Copier' on the menu

Try "XPCreate"- It will create an ISO image of WinXP, after downloading and
slipstreaming SP1 (if you don't already have in on the disk) and all
hotfixes up to the date of creation. This is provided that you use the
program on a computer with an internet connection. The ISO image can then be
burned to disk using your Roxio program and the disk will be bootable.

and as carey has suggested already, it wouldn't hurt to obtain/install the latest updates for ECDC5, from http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/software_updatesv5.jhtml

be mindful, there are separate updates for either ECDC Basic or Platinum

the Update Easy CD Creator 5.x.x Platinum to 5.3.5 is here:
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/ecdc_plat_535dl_t2.jhtml

if you have platinum, apply the above update first (restart), then download/apply the Drive Update for Easy CD Creator Platinum 5.3.5.10t

I only have one CD drive, will this let me cache first?

yes, the CD Copier will copy the contents of XP cdrom to the hard drive,
then spit-out the original and prompt you to insert a blank CDR.

you should not need to press any key to continue, the cd copier will detect
that the CDR is present and automatically start writing... just give it
about 10 seconds or so after inserting the blank CDR

Okay, that created a nice bootable CD, lets see if the files are complete
this time. (I think My 'read only' drive is acting up so I wanted to do all
this through my 'read and write' drive only.

Perfect, thanks everyone.
