Yes - just close the archive file and use Explorer - the Archive file
doesn't have to be open for outlook to function....

How do you close the archive file while Outlook is open, using the
command-line?
I need to do this in a scheduled batch file.

You'd have to ask that question in an Outlook programming group I
suspect.....
 
There is no such thing. Outlook has to be closed or the archive has to be
disconnected from Outlook.
 
If you are using a third party backup solution that app may have the ability
to close OL then reopen once the backup has completed.
Otherwise a batch file with a kill file entry, followed by start backup,
then an open OL
