Copy Sheet Error/Application Freeze

I support Excel users in my company. A user is unable to copy a sheet within
an Excel workbook. Gets error that the "sheet name already exists" (which it
doesn't - the name the error box displays is a strange combination of
letters, underscores and numbers) then the application freezes. My thought is
the workbook itself has become corrupted.

What version and service pack are they on?
Is it possible that there are hidden sheets in the workbook? Go to format,
sheets, unhide and see if there are any sheets. Also, did they check the box
that says create a copy check box. The sheet name would already exist since
they are copying it from within the same workbook.
