Copy pictures from PowerPoint to Word

If I want to copy a bunch of pictures or shapes or whatever from PPT 2007 to
Word 2007, when I paste them into Word, they end up grouped together. Can
this be avoided? I can't ungroup them. Thanks.

How are you copying the images? Are you grouping them prior to copying or
are you copy/pasting them one at a time?

Are you working with shapes or pictures? Note the distinction is important
since PPT and Word use different drawing engines for shapes.

It happens when I do a Ctrl+c and a Ctrl+v with ungrouped objects. Both jpgs
and shapes respond the same way: they end up pasting into Word as what looks
like a picture that can't be ungrouped.

I guess what's happening is that I can't draw a shape in PPT, paste it into
Word, and then edit it any more, right?

And I can't copy a bunch of pictures from PPT, then paste them into Word and
rearrange them. I need to import them one by one into Word and then resize
and rearrange them.

Why is that? Do Word and PPT now handle shapes and pictures different? What
the resolution of the objects being pasted into Word?

Thanks.

If you are grouping jpgs and shapes together then this will happen. You can
copy/paste the jpg individually but for the shape, you might want to create
them in Word instead of PPT unless you complete what you want in PPT and
paste it as an image in Word.

They did make some changes in how Shapes are handled in PPT/Excel and Word.
Due to compatibility issues with previous versions of Word, it didn't get
the enhanced shape capabilities (internally called Escher2 objects) that PPT
and Excel have. I don't like it either but Word almost didn't get any of the
new graphics features at all so I guess some is better than none. Images are
compatible between the applications, it's just the shapes that are
different. You can still copy groups of images (jpgs for example) and
they'll be fine, you just can't group shapes with them or copy/paste shapes
unless you want to convert them to a picture in Word. :-(
