Copy Only Report or Query to Another DB

Lori

I've created a query and report on a copy of my client's DB. Is there a way
to copy just these objects to his version of the DB. If I copy the whole DB,
I will overwrite any data he's entered since our last meeting.
Thank you, Lori

Open the db you want to copy INTO, go to File/Get External Data/Import,
select the db you want to copy FROM, then select the objects you want
to import.

Make a backup first just as a precaution.

If you have A2007, the steps may be slightly different.

Lori:

You can also open both databases simultaneously in separate windows and drag
and drop each object from one to the other with the mouse.

However, you clearly have both the tables and the 'front end' objects
(forms, queries , reports etc) in one file. It’s far better to split the
database into separate front and back ends, the latter containing the tables
only and the former the interface objects along with links to the back end
tables. That way you can simply replace the front end with your new version
and refresh the links to the back end on your client's system using the built
in 'linked table manager'. The built in 'database splitter' wizard will
split the file for you, creating a back end file with a _be suffix to the
file name.

It also means multiple users can share the same back end by placing this in
a shared folder on a network and installing Access itself and separate copies
of the front end on each local machine.

Other advantages are that the data can be backed up regularly independently
of the front end, and if the front end becomes corrupted the data is not
affected, so its just a case of replacing the front end with a clean version
and refreshing the links.
