Copy files from Dos on NTFS drivers to Windows XP! Critical!!!

Hi! As I have posted earlier I have problems getting into Windows XP
because of lsass.exe.

Now my problem within the problem is that I can´t copy files (which I
want to backup and store on another computer) from Dos. I´ve used
NTFSpro and NTFSdos (Don´t know the difference between the two) to
access the NTFS-drives but the floppies, as you know, aren´t bigger
than 1,4 mb and I have about 20 critical files that exceed 2 mb up to
10 mb that I can´t transfer. I have tried to pack these files but
because the NTFSpro (or whatever) is running the memory is not enough
to rar the files. Is there any other compress-program that uses less
memory? less 200 kb I believe.

Do any of you know a program that can compress these files and split
them up to files as big as a floppy?

Is there a program that can access ntfs-drives and at the same time
compress larger files from dos to make them fit on a floppy?

I´ve tried to burn them into a CD also but because of the NTFSpro the
memory is not enough. I´ve used DOSCDROAST
http://www.freeweb.hu/doscdroast/ and it wants a lot of memory.
Do any of you know if there´s a program that burn CD:s and at the same
time can read NTFS-drives?

I will be extremely grateful for all help!

Why not just install another hard drive formatted FAT32 and copy the files
to it.

Use a RAM drive. I use a boot disk that sets up a 16 mb RAM drive and
loads PKZIP onto it. The RAM disk utility I use came on one of the
network boot disks from www.bootdisk.com

Then I use ReadNTFS (free from http://www.ntfs.com/products.htm) to
locate the files and copy them to the RAM disk. When the RAM disk is
full I exit ReadNTFS and run PKZIP to copy the files from the RAM disk
to multiple 3.5 inch diskettes. Works like a charm.

Good luck

Hi Ron...Thanks for the help!

....but I have to ask a, maybe, stupid question. How do I go about
setting up the RAM drive in dos? Shall I just add some command lines
in config.sys and boot with the bootdisk with the new config.sys? Is
there an other way of creating RAM drives?

As always I appreciate all help I can get!

Here are two quicker, easier (I think so anyway) ways:

1. If the machine has two cd drives, one of which is cd-rw, boot the
machine with Knoppix (a Linux distro that runs from cd) and burn the
files to cd-r with k3b.

2. Remove the hard drive from the sick machine and slave it in another
working XP computer, copy the files to its hard drive, and burn a cd-r.

Thanks for the advice!

Unfortuneatly the computer which is sick has only one CD (rw) and it´s
a laptop and I am not so good at ensemble and desemble them. If it
were a stationary computer I was working then the problem would be
easy to solve. But I´m not..

I fixed the ramdrive with XMSDSK and it works perfect. And I packed
some files using ARJ because RAR ate too much memory but ARJ works
just fine.
Do any of you know of a CD-r-program that I can run on the RAM drive
instead of using 1500 floppys? :)

Thanks again Ron and Malke for your help!

I'm glad the RAM drive worked for you. I'm sorry, but I don't know how
you could install a program like a burning app on a RAM drive. Maybe
Ron Martell will pop back in with the answer. If all else fails, take
the laptop to a good local computer repair shop where they will have a
laptop-to-IDE drive adapter and can slave the drive for you.

Good luck,

Malke
