If your intent is to import the messages into Outlook 2007 on Vista...
- follow Steve's advice explicitly for importing into Windows Mail
- verify the messages are actually present in Windows Mail
Then follow the instructions below....*(this works best with pop3 accounts).
Open Outlook 2007(An Outlook profile is required, if not already created, OL07 will prompt you on first open)
File/Import and Export
Choose Import from another Program or File
Click Next
Choose 'Outlook Express 4,5,6x or Windows Mail'
Click Next
Ensure 'Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail' is highlighted
Click Next
Agree to the default Display name(you can change it later)
Agree to the default email address
Click Next
Verify the pop3 email servers for the account being imported
If Outgoing server requires authentication(check that box)
Click Next
Agree to the E-mail user name field(usually as an e.g. (e-mail address removed) where xyz is your email account domain)
Enter the Password, click remember password
Click Next
Choose the correct Connection option(Lan, phone, 3rd party)
Click Next
If successful, you should see a prompt that you've successfully entered all info and a check box to 'Save these settings and
download your mail'
Click Next
Agree to the next dialog box to asking
' Would you like to import e-mail messages and addressed from Outlook Express or Windows Mail'
If successful, the account will be present in Outlook and the messages will be in Outlook's Inbox.
Verify the account settings(Tools/Account Settings/<select the account>/ and also on More Settings(all four tabs)
Test the Account using OL's 'Test Account Settings' option
With regard to the note on pop3 accounts(if you are trying to import a Hotmail account with pop3 settings from WM), its best to set
that account up in advance in OL since Outlook may interpret a hotmail, msn, or live.com address as an http address(and complain
accordingly). If so, ignore the warning, the account won't import, the messages will.
