I would like to copy my data (music and pictures) to a flash drive and would
like to transfer after clean install of XP. Could someone help me whether I
am able to achieve this and advice me of any pitfalls. Thank you in advance.

Go to the folder your data is stored in, right click the folder, select
copy, go to My Computer, right click the flash drive and select paste.
Procedure is reverse after the fresh install. If iTunes or similar is
involved, you need to visit the support website of the software to determine
how to maintain your purchased music.

The only pitfal is that is you have any DRM "protected" music files,
you will need to locate info on how to backup the DRM licenses.
