Jane M.

I was hoping someone could help me with a problem with Windows XP

Copy and paste don't work anymore. I copy and go to paste and nothing
happens.

It doesn't matter if I use Control+C or Edit, Copy to copy or
whether I use Control+V or Edit, Paste to paste it.

Any advice would be appreciated

Jane, if you have the WinXP CD. Place it in the cdrom drive. Then go to
Start>Run type: sfc /scannow

I have the same problem - what if don't have XP on a CD? Help Please!

Right click the Start button and select Properties. Click Customize and
scroll through the list of options. Be sure that the "drag/drop and
copy/paste" option is enabled.

If you are pasting into Word or another Office program, open that program
first. Then do your copy and paste operations.

You really need to get an XP CD. If your Windows was preinstalled and your
OEM provided files on the hard drive instead of on a CD, you will be in
deep if your hard drive dies and you can't get to those files. Contact the
OEM to see if you can get a recovery CD as well.

Hi and thanks
I have checked the start (right click) properties. Enable drag/drop was enabled but I don't have a copy/paste box to check
Any more suggestions will be appreciated

Bob, does copy and paste *never* work or only sometimes? Please give an
example of copy and paste not working for you.

Hi Sharon The only thing I can copy and paste is within Word2000 but not
from Word to any other document or from any other document, web page etc
to Word. I use safelists a lot for mailing emails and usually copy and
paste from a Word file to the Safelist mailing page. I am unable to copy
and paste urls from emails into the browser and so the list goes on...
Thanks for you interest

Are you using the Office clipboard or the Windows clipboard? If using the
Office clipboard, what happens if you use the Windows clipboard instead?

Have all service packs and updates been applied to your copy of Word2000?

Is there a default printer designated in Printers and Fax? If a program
requires additional default printer settings, has one been selected in the
program?

I haven't found an answer for you, Bob, but may want to ask at the Word
newsgroups for information about any known issues with the Office/Word2000
clipboard under Windows XP.

Also is it possible that there are some security settings in place that
could be blocking this? Found this article but security settings on this
level are a bit over my head:
Terminal Services Group Policy Objects
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;294751&Product=winxp

The article below was slightly interesting. It discusses a no copy/paste
situation but states that there should be an accompanying error message. If
no on screen error message, check the Event Viewer for any mention of
errors or failures when the copy/paste will not execute.
Some Programs Rely on Existence or Behavior of Earlier Versions of the
Riched32.dll File

Sorry I don't have a more concrete answer for you.

One other thing to try, create a new user account. Test basic copy/paste on
that account. Notepad to Wordpad. IE to Notepad. Then try a few of the
programs that have not been agreeable. Compare results to those in your
user account.

OK, thanks Sharon.
I'll spend some time following up your suggestions and let you know if I find a solution, as I will one day, I'm sure.
Thanks for your help so far.
Bob

You're welcome, Bob. Will be looking forward to hearing how this works out.

I have the same problem

Greetings,

I am experiencing the same problem. I have noticed several people on the Internet reporting this problem, but no solutions yet. Coincidentally, everyone with this problem seems to have an HP or Compaq notebook...

Has anyone found a solution? My symptoms are as follows:
1. Whenever you select some text (in any application) the cursor begins to "flicker".
2. Pressing control-C, then moving the cursor to somewhere else in the same file, or to another application and then pressing control-V does not produce any results.
3. If you control-v, your selected text is deleted, but the original text is not inserted.
4. If you try to paste into a Microsoft office application, it pastes an image file that is a screenshot of the entire screen instead of pasting the original text.

Any help would be appreciated.
