Copied .pst files and corruption of pop3 account downloads

I recently cut over to broadband, and have two PC's both running Xp pro (SP2)
and OL2003. I have multiple pop3 email accounts, home accounts for wife and
kids on on machine and business and person accounts on other.
It looks like this;
husband and wife.pst
kids.pst both on one computer

business.pst
private.pst on second computer

I copied husband and wife.pst to the new computer and renamed it
husband.pst, deleting all wife emails.

Using dial up access, everything worked fine email from pop3 service
provider found their way to the appropriate OL pst file.
However when I cut over to broadband everything went pear shaped. wife
emails started to appear in private.pst account whenever I did a send receive.

I isloated the problem in that wife could receive pop3 emails when my
outlook was not runnng. If my outlook was running email would come back to
private.pst

I have worked out the following through trial and error:
If you copy a .pst file and move it to another Outlook config, it will still
think it is attached to the original pop3 settings, and when sending and
receiving will download email accordingly.
If you do copy a .pst file from a different pop3 user account, you cannot
have it open when you do a pop3 receive. You MUST close it.

So there must be a setting within the .pst data file or in the registry
which still associates the .pst file with a user account.

Has anyone had this problem and can they identify a tweak which will stop
this as I have a number of .pst files which i use regularly.

Were I you, I'd start with a new mail profile.
