Cooling fan question - please help!!

Hi - I don't know much about technical things like this, but I'm hoping to
get help from this group.

I have the following processor - an Athlon 550mhz. On the actual processor
it says K7550MTR51B R and 230025501291. The motherboard says K7V rev 1.01.

There are two fans on the heatsink, one with three wires (black, red,
yellow) and one with two wires (black and red). All five wires merge into a
3-pin plug.

One of the fans doesn't spin freely and I assume this is why the unit is
very noisy, so I want to replace one or both of the fans.. The fans say
D50SM-12BS at the top, 005 underneath that, DC 12V 0.10A. They are about 1
7/8" on each side and about 9/16" in height or depth (depending on how you
orient the fan)

I went to the AMD site and was referred to a couple of models that should
replace the fan or both fans. These were the Globe Cooler part number ZCS38
and the Foxconn part number NBT-K0010AW1DBWCB-001. The only contacts for
these companies are outside of the United States where I live and I couldn't
find the fans online.

I give all these details to ask those of you who know - what kind of fan(s)
can I get as replacement(s) and where can I get them?

Looking at the motherboard, it looks to me like I might be able to mount two
replacement fans and plug them into two separate plugs (vs. having the wires
merge into one plug), if that helps.

I would appreciate any replies being cc'd to me at (e-mail address removed), as I
don't regularly monitor this group.

many thanks for any help you can offer!

I don't know if this really helps but:

I got this by putting "D50SM" (with or without quotes) into a Google
search. There were a good few other hits too so if you try it
yourself, you may be able to plod through them and possibly find a
replacement.

Don't know where you live, but in my area, which happens to be the
heart of Silicon Valley, there's a ton of surplus parts stores that
sell individual fans. I've bought many, some for the CPU, some for the
case. At least here, easy to find and cheap. Aren't there any computer
parts outlets where you are???

I believe that you have an ABIT motherboard, but I'm not familiar with
any heatsinks that have two fans. You should be able to find
replacement fans in most compUSA or other well-equipped computer
stores. However, if the processor is a few years old, then it might be
problemmatic. The surplus route is a good idea. I'd remove the current
heatsink and take it with you to whatever store you go to. There's one
other possibility that you could try. If you can access the label that
covers the hub of the fan you can often gain access to the fan bearing
and sqirt a drop of oil in it. This was a common fix for the fan on the
northside bridge chip of the abit motherboards.
