converting .wmv to mpeg

Hello. I edited videos with windows movie maker, I sent them to pals who are
using mac but they couldnt open it. Please tell me what software do I use to
convert to mpg or avi?, I downloaded some free converter but there is an ad
of the software maker in the middle of my video. I hope you understand what
I am saying, English isnt my native language. TIA

An easier alternative is for the MAC users to use a compatible player for
wmv files.
