Converting table to text

I have a lot of telephone correspondence with my friend who is a bigwig
in Professional Secretaries International and a Word whiz. Unfortunately
I am an Excel whiz. It's like Men are from Mars, etc.

This being said, I get a big awkward table in a Word file, and I Select
All and navigate to where you have (convert table to text)(convert text
to table), and the first option is greyed out. Why??

Do I need to reinstall or what? I dread losing all my options and
preferences. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

G'Day P D,

The document is 'more' than the table, and to 'Select All' selects that 'more'.

Just click (once) ANYWHERE inside the table, and you can
Table>Convert>Table to Text.

If you have used Select All, then you have selected not only the table but
also any text paragraphs in the document (there will be at least one empty
text paragraph at the end of the document; this is required). Instead,
select just the table. In Word 2000 and above, you can easily do this in
Print Layout view by clicking the table handle at the top left corner. If
you're trying to get the data into Excel, however, you should be able to
paste it directly from a Word table provided there are no paragraph breaks
in any of the table cells.

From Dallas to Melbun:

I see what you mean and you knew exactly what I did wrong - I am going
to have to print this and put it in my book of tips and tricks!!! What's
it like there this time of year? I've only ever been to Oz in September,
when I customarily took holidaze.

thanks for the advice - I suppose this is the reason you can't open Word
documents with Excel, but I have had unusual success in cutting and
pasting stuff in, then formatting as I feel necessary. Again thanx!!
