Converting Quicktime files

Help... I have downloaded files from my Digital Camera which apear on my computer as Quicktime files which I can't drag into Movie Maker. Do I need to covert the files or change some settings?

Their tool will convert .mov files to .avi files. I
can't vouch for the quality as I have only converted a
couple files so far.
