Converting Outlook XP .pst to Outlook 2007 format

I installed Office 2007 over my existing Office XP. I prefer to keep my .pst
file in a location that is easily found, I keep it in C:\1data\Outlook. When
I try to convert it to the new format it tells me the file is in use, of
course it is in use, I have to have Outlook open to convert. How do I get
around that? I still wish to keep it in the same location as my two backup
programmes, Outlook backup and Datakeeper backup, are pointed there. Thank
