I have done several PPT presentations and saved them in my older version of
Office 2000 Professional Powerpoint and Windows 98 SE machine, but want to
move it all to my new system with Windows XP Home and Office 2003 Powerpoint
software. The software will not acknowledge my work other than as a "Read
Only" version, thusly not letting me save my work for modification on my XP
machine!! How can I convert my Office 2000 PPT to Office 2003 PPT where it is
saveable and able to be modifed on the XP machine???? HELP!!!!!

Have you installed the service pack for Office 2003? If not do it now as it
was broken right out of the box.

What the others said.

And also, verify that you have a full version of Office/PowerPoint.
I think some new computers are shipping with a limited-time demo version of
Office. If you have one of those and it's expired, everything will be Read
Only.

As a test, start PPT and create a new presentation then save it.
If it won't let you save, your demo has expired.

Did you use CDs to store and move your presentations? Because CDs are a
read-only medium, the files will be marked read-only, too. After you have
copied them to your hard disk, right-click on the filename in Windows
Explorer, open Properties and uncheck the Option read-only.

Kind regards,
Ute
