I upgraded from Outlook 2002 (XP) to Outlook 2003 without
realizing the effect it would have on my corporate mail
servers. Long story short, I had to uninstall 2003 and
reinstall 2002 and I am having problems. I am able to
send and receive mail but it will not synchronize for
offline access. When I try to access Send/Receive
Settings under Tools>Options>Mail Setup I get an error
that says simply "The operation failed." When I go to
Tools>Send/Receive Settings>Define Send/Receive Groups
nothing happens.

Has anyone come acrossa these kinds of problems from
going back to Outlook 2002 from Outlook 2003? Any help
would be appreciated.

What happens if you run Detect and Repair?

What sort of affect did it have on your corporate servers? Outlook 2003
should be friendlier than Outlook 2002. What sort of server?

My understanding is that is caused corrupt headers or
something. But I am just a worker bee, so they don't
really give me the details!

We fixed the problem. You need to delete your OST files
and your profile and recreate them. I guess 2003 uses a
different format so they cause trouble for 2002.

Detect and Repair does nothing. I actually uninstalled
and reinstalled to no avail. The problem was fixed,
thankfully. You need to delete your OST file and your
profile and recreate them. 2003 must alter them in some
way that makes them problematic for 2002. Once we did
that we had full functionality again.
