Converting from Mixed to Native domain mode

M

Michael Swore

We have been running Windows 2000 in Mixed domain mode
with 12 Windows 2000 Servers (All domain controllers). We
have eliminated all of the Nt 4.0 servers and feel it is
now time to convert to "Native" mode.

How long does the conversion take?

Is running in Mixed mode why we can't get more than one
Workstation Group Policy to work?

There are several benefits when converting to native mode, kerberos, group
policy enhancements, trusts, etc... But the change is one which cannot be
"undone", so testing and validation should be completed before making the
change. Consider the level of testing for this change, roughly equivalent
to performing a schema upgrade.

Actually performing the conversion only requires a few mouse clicks, and
then the change needs to replicate to all the other DC's.
