Do I need to buy another program to convert my word documents to a PDF file?
If so what is suggested and how does it work and the general cost for this

You'd need another program.

You mention Word but you've posted in a PowerPoint newsgroup so you get a
PowerPoint flavored answer, but the suggestions here will work for Word also.

Adobe actually provides this feature. Search in Acrobat Help for converting
PDFs to other formats
