Convert Root DC to new machine?

I'm in need of retiring the initial root Domain Controller
in a native Win2k domain structure. I'd like to avoid
having to rebuild the Active Directory structure from
scratch on the new machine. Is there any way to do this?
Is there a Microsoft Migration document somewhere I can
view? Can't seem to find what I'm looking for. The
Domain was originally upgraded from NT 4.0, but has since
been converted to all Win2k and is currently running in
Native mode. Obviously my concerns are the initial root
DC's functions. Building a new domain to model the
existing one is a terrible way to migrate the DC from old
hardware to newer hardware. There must be a better way.

Thanks,

Joe

Someone correct me if I am wrong but this is how I understand it.

Build your 2nd, "pristine" W2K server. DCPROMO it as the 2nd DC of your
domain. Then use DCPROMO to demote your original DC. This should move all
the FSMO stuffage to the remaining DC.
