Hi,

is there any program to convert midi to mp3?

TIA
I`ve been playing Midi files since 1986, and I`m sorry to say
that there`s nothing that works properly.
Depending on your sound card, I`d suggest you use this method:

Set up your Sound Recorder, to record `what it hears`.
Open up your midi software.
Start your recorder, then play your Midi file.
Your recorder will record what it hears.

I use Creative software that works extremely well.

Hi,

TIA

Midi files are just command files and do not contain any information
that can be converted to mp3 I'm afraid.

Regards,
John.

Audacity works very well with this method.
You'll need to download a plugin to get Audacity to save to MP3
format,

the only freeware (free software, actually) I remember now is timidity++
start here: http://timidity.sourceforge.net/
there must be others using soundfonts but I don't remember any title ATM
I don't think Timidity++ can convert to mp3, but there's loads of wav to
mp3 converters (I theeeenk; I've never wanted one)

Timidity is also a cracking midi player, given a good soundfont,
independent of your soundcard.

And converts midi to wav faster than real time - my only worry is thar a
lot of the help for thickoes like me has disappeared

MidiMeow does a decent job..

http://meow-prod.com/

MidiMeow an audio freeware that converts midi files into wav, ogg or mp3
or MeowMultiSound a free mp3, wav and ogg encoder. These 2 softs are
totally free. Just check out the freeware menu and make your choice.

Thanks, Frank; bookmarked it.

I'm still running with guspatches and merlin soundfonts and Tim Brchbill's
config files, but I get the feeling it's all changing under me - I'd like
to help folks, but I can't find the resources that I'm using any more.

I'm scared of a disaster making me start again!

Incorrect. Any midi player converts the midi to audio.
That audio can be captured and converted to mp3 (or any
other digital format). Quite easy.
