CONVERT litres to imperial gallons

M

Michael Campbell

here in the uk, we measure car fuel conumption normally
as miles per gallon (mpg), but it is sold in litres, i
wanted a formula to calculate fuel, and implemented the
necessary add-in, which included the CONVERT function.
stupud me, it understandably converts liters to US
gallons, and was disappointed by the poor perfomance of
my car. There is a big difference between imperial and US
gallons.

1 US gallon = 3.9 liters
1 imperial gallon = 4.6 litres

so, take care chaps

Hi Michael!

You *can* use CONVERT to convert litres to UK gallons using

=CONVERT(A1,"l","uk_pt")/8

If A1 is 1 that gives:
0.219969461940208

Conversion factor for direct conversion is:
=1/0.219969461940208
4.5460855846973

That's a bit lower than your 4.6

1 US pint = 16 US fluid ounces
1 litre = 2.11337641 US pint

1 Imperial pint = 19.2152067 US fluid ounces
1 litre = 1.75975326 Imperial pint

Best to create your own function

Years ago, in Lotus I made this little utlility. Then I converted it
to Excel:

FUELECON.XLS 10/02/2003

Kilometres in 70700 10/02/03
Kilometres out 70400 06/02/03
- Days Km/day
Kilometres Tot 300 4 75.00

Petrol Cost/Fill $35.00
Petrol Cost/Ltr. 0.967

Miles per Gallon 23.41 Bad
Litres per 100km 12.06

The constant I use to get Imperial MPG is 2.8248 see below.

=B7*B10/B9*2.8248

You can write something similar to use the pommie quid :)
