Conversion of old word

I was just assigned this computer at work and there is office 2007 on it, but
when I get email attachments that are in older version of word, it does not
automatically convert to 2007, it actually opens in wordperfect... I have
figured a way around it, but I have to save the file, then open with 2007
then save again as a 2007 word doc.

i can't just open it and then save in 2007.... what am I missing here, i
have checked almost every setting?? Help please

Notwithstanding the fact that it is bad practice to open attachments
directly from e-mail messages, the problem you have here is a conflict of
file association. The default file association for DOC is currently assigned
to Word Perfect on your PC. You need to assign DOC to Word 2007. Whether
WordPerfect will reclaim its association when next run is another matter
entirely. You would have to ask in a WP forum how to stop it doing that.
Windows can only associate one application with a particular extension, so
if you are in the habit of receiving both WO and Word documents with a DOC
extension, you are going to have to decide which application you wish to
open.

If you simply save the attachments to your hard drive and open tehm from
within the appropriate application the problem goes away.

Word 2007 should open WordPerfect 5 and 6 file types..... no need to have
both on the machine....

The conversion is less than perfect and not ideally suited to use by anyone
who need to work with people using both formats.
