Conversion of images

Please excuse me if these questions have been raised before. As a newbie
- I seek immunity from wrath!

I am quite used to working with P/Point - mainly in visual
presentations presenting hotels and destinations. I volunteered to help
a friend put his images of an Antarctic trip in a P/P presentation so he
can show it to school groups etc. I didn't realise there were almost 300
of them. So .... questions are:

1. Is there any way I can manage a mass Import of his images or is it
necessary to hit Insert New Slide and then the Insert Image >From File
etc.? When placing the CD in computer, the automatic default to "Do you
want a picture show" type prompt is exactly what I want .... except he
doesn't want the automatic 5 second transition .... he wants it set to
manual transition and I can't see how that can be managed using the
default "View a Slideshow of the Images using Windows Picture 7 Fax
Viewer"

2. When I have tried to Insert an image, the size of the picture on the
P/Point slide seems much bigger. For example - the picture of a penguin,
quite normal in his CD viewing - will only show the central part of the
bird when put on P/Point. I have tried fiddling about with the zoom
percentages but it doesn't seem to work.

I realise that these are very basic questions to this newsgroup but any
help you can give me will be much appreciated. I blithely promised I
would have this ready for my friend by the weekend.... and am getting
worried!

We're not a very wrathful bunch, I'm afraid. You'll have to take us, meek and
mellow, as we are. But for fast answers, a quick Google newsgroup search can't
be beat.

Zoom shows more or less of the slide but doesn't change what's on the slide.
You can zoom out until you see the corner of an image, then drag the corner to
shrink it. Or rightclick the image, go to the size tab and plug in something
more reasonable. Lock the aspect ratio then type 7.5 for height, for example.

Most of the solutions mentioned in the link Michael posted will do this
automatically, by the way.

However. However. HOWEVER ...

The fact that the images come in so large suggests that they're much bigger
files, more data, than is needed. Using them as-is will bloat your PPT files
unnecessarily.

I'd suggest using something like the free IrfanView (www.irfanview.com) to
batch downsample the images to 1024x768 or thereabouts and save as JPGs.
Insert the downsampled versions instead of the originals.
