conversion from Word 6.0/95 format

I'm working on an old document (it's in Word 6.0/95 format), and every time I
save it, I get a message
This file needs to be saved using the Word 6.0/95 text converter. If you are
not the author of this file or if the file is not from a trusted source,
using this converter may pose a security threat. Click Yes to save this file
only if you are sure it is from a trusted source.
Alright, I'm sure that I can trust the source, I click yes. I continue
working. I save it again, and get the same message. I click Yes again. I
finally close the document. The next day, I come back and open it again.
Yesterday's changes are there, so it did save. I make some more changes, save
again, and get the same message - apparently it did NOT convert. Will this
document ever actually get converted? I'm using Word 2002.

What makes you think it didn't save? If you save using that old converter
you will always get the secuity warning message. It doesn't mean that the
conversion hasn't taken place.
If you don't want the message save as RTF using the converter that came with
2002.

Oh, I'm sure that it DID save - all the changes I made on Thursday are there
when I open it again on Friday, etc. We're talking about my computer at work,
and I shut it down completely every night. It just doesn't convert - if it
does donvert, then why would it keep wanting to convert it again and again?
If I open it now, make some changes, save it, and asks me about converting,
I click Yes, convert, then doesn't that mean that it's being saved Word 2002
format?
Once it's converted, why would it need to be converted again?
Would saving in .rtf format eliminate whatever distinguishes Word 6.0/95
format from 2002 format? If so, then could I save again in .doc format and
have it come out in 2002?

If you save it in the same format then of course it will need converting
again. Save it as Word 2002 document format.

The document doesn't have any format until it is saved. The converter merely
allows the document to be opened and by default it will save in the same
format.
