I start an HTML email typing in Arial with a left margin close to the left
edge of the window.

Then I go to a Word doc and copy and paste a section of the doc into the
HTML email. The text comes in like in the Word doc with Times New Roman and
Body Text 3 left indented to the right.

I then want to go back to the Arial text and with the non indented margin.
How do I do that?

Outlook only provides a limited WYSIWYG capabilities for HTML editing.
You'll need to use Word or an HTML editor to compose all of your
document and then send that. If the HTML editor you use does not itself
provide a feature to e-mail a web page composed within it then read
http://www.slipstick.com/mail1/html.htm on suggestions on how to migrate
HTML code into an Outlook message.

I am not really trying to format a complex HTML document. I just want to
insert a paragraph of text from a word doc and then after the inserted
document go back to the formatting that started the document.

I tested this: I started an HTML email, typed a bunch of text. And instead
of pasting the Word doc text at the end of what I had typed, I pasted it in
the between two lines of text in the middle of what I had written. It
worked correctly in that the top of the email is formatted in the original
HTML format with Arial no indent, the pasted in middle part is Times New
Roman with an indent, and the following text is back to Arial no indent.

As stated above I just want to insert a paragraph of text from a word doc
and then after the inserted document go back to the formatting that started
the document.

You are still expecting one HTML editor to support the same formatting
of a different HTML editor. If you open a document in OpenOffice that
was composed in Word then don't expect OpenOffice to display it exactly
the same way. There is some compatibility in formatting but it's not
exact when migrating. By pasting your Word-originated content into the
middle of Outlook's edit session, you are wrapping the Outlook editor's
HTML formatting around what you pasted. When you append the
Word-originated content then you get the HTML formatting that Word used.
If you want better HTML formatting control than what Outlook's embedded
e-mail compose editor provides then use Word to compose your e-mails or
some other HTML editor.
