Are margins in Excel variable?

I have a Word doc with the same margins as my Excel doc and they don't line
up. The borders in Excel line up with the left most text on the Word doc but
the text on the Excel is slightly indented which is because of that small
internal cell margin. I've tried to adjust the left margin to account for
that small internal margin but then it seems like nothing snaps to the top
and left margins--like it's variable or something. Are margins not absolute?
I've converted the entire worksheet to inches for the column widths for a
letter-sized paper--it should work??

Interior margins in cells are not adjustable unless you are set to have an
indent, in which case, remove the indent.

BTW.............how did you convert to inches?

Is that a 2007 version feature?

The question is more about why the top and left margins don't seem to be
absolute. I tried to adjust my page margins to account for the internal cell
margins to match-up to my Word doc top and left page margins but it just
seems to randomly and slightly jump around as if it's variable. I just
thought that the layout should "glue" to the top and left page margins that
you plug-in. I've been converting and measuring for days--even using a
points ruler--it's become a science project for me. ;)

Then I discovered that 2007 has a "page layout" view that has a ruler,
therefore I was able to figure out all of my column widths in "excel inches"
to matcch a letter-sized paper exactly--for garamond anway. So I thought all
of this would discontinue any variable issues possible...but it didn't.

If I seem confusing, sorry--it's all in my head but may not be coming out
right.
