Controlling Animation Motion Paths??

J

John Jenco

I'm having trouble controlling the motion paths of objects
in PowerPoint XP, especially when I'm trying to get an
object start at a given point and move downward a specific
amount. When I try and resize the 'arrow sliders' after
inserting the animation onto the object, the sliders seem
to jump around.

How does the green slider arrow relate to the starting
position for the object? Same question for the red arrow
and the objects' end point of movement? Why do my objects
jump a few pixels to the left or right as they move
downward (the direction of animation is down)??

Thanks in advance for any help or references?

John,

I've experienced the "jumping" which is nice if that is what you want <g>.

Briefly, a work around is to select the path animation and "bump" it with
the arrow keys. Or draw a little dot where you want it to land, and see if
the path will "jump" to that when you set it. I believe the jumping is set
to the snap settings under <Control + G>. But I couldn't prove that right
now <g>. To change the length, hmmm. Good question!

Glen - Thanks for the note. In continuing to fool around
with the app, I've learned that I have greater control in
applying the animation motion if I use the "Draw Custom
Path..." command. You're right, the arrow keys can be used
to adjust motion in any direction by one pixel increments.
Still trying to work out how the green and red arrows
correlate to the start and stop points. It does not appear
intuitive...

John,

You get finer control, from what I remember, with <Control + arrow key>. Red
and green arrows show which end of the path it is.

John,

Hate to jump in midstream but I was wondering if having the "Snap" feature
turned on might also cause the lack of control. I know it has an impact
when moving objects around in small increments. Just a thought! Of course,
I am too lazy to try it out to see if it in fact works, but I got ya
thinking! HA!

By the way, that is under "Draw", "Grids and Guides" of the Drawing Toolbar.

So, to summarize ...
The snap to grid feature causes the adjusted arrows to be off a little
The green arrow is the starting point of the motion path
The red arrow is the end point

And lastly ...
Both arrows are in the exact center of the object being moved

Excellent! I know he worked hard for it and deserves all the pride and
thrill that hard work and earned victory bring. Now, who is Matthew, and
how does one play cricket? (vbg, couldn't resist)

Matthew is one of Glen's kids and cricket is this strange game they play in
the UK (and other areas of Europe, I think) where you hit a ball with a bat
and run between two posts while wearing white. Never understood the game
myself, but it offered up a really great section for Hitchhiker's!

Loved Hitchhiker, but have a little difficulty with the whole "don't panic"
concept. Besides, I could never be a hitchhiker: too many mornings, when I
wake up, I find the kids have used the last towel and not bothered to
mention it to anyone.

Sorry, Glen. I don't remember ever talking family names. This may be a
meatware memory leak on this side of the water, I'll have to do a search on
my HD. Is he still celebrating?
