Control Panel Views

Not through anything I've done intentionally, I have recently lost the ability to use category view in my Control Panel. I can open the screen that lists the categories, but when I select any particular category, the Control Panel freezes and I must close it by using the Task Manager

I'd be grateful for any information as to how to correct the problem.
