Control Panel : Left side

When I click on Control Panel in Windows XP Home I used to have a drop down
menu on the left side that allowed me to choose between Classic View and / or
Standard View . It has disappeared from the box and I can't switch now .
This has happened on my Laptop and Desktop PC's . How do I get it back ??

There isn't "switch to category view" there? If not click on "Control panel"
category view should then show up.

Most likely you changed your folder view to the classic.
In the Control Panel, select folder options.
Near the top is the option to use classic folder or Show Common Tasks.

I tried looking at folder options icon --- I changed to classic view and hit
apply and I lose the left side of the Control Panel window . When I click
common tasks and apply it comes back again ---- still does not allow me to
switch from Control Panel window ??????????

Is there a round "button" beside Control Panel with double arrows pointing
down ? If so, click it and the box should drop down showing Switch to
Category View.... Hope this helps....

How very strange..... Tried to duplicate your problem, can't... Do you have
the words Control Panel on a darker blue background there in the left panel ?
What happens if you L-click on the words ? Mine does show the button, but
if I just click on the words, the box will drop down...
