Control Panel in OE after SP2

D

Daj

Hi
I wrote about this earlier "Subject: SP2 and control panel". I gave new information, but did not
receive any answers. I understand you can only answer just so many questions, but the thread started
on the 9th and I believe they skipped to 10th and 11th. Please bear with me on this. I upgraded to SP2
after which control panel would freeze up on me and still does. I have noticed now that in win
explorer that on the left side dropdown window where all the drives align downward one by one, that
after the last drive, which in my case is G:\ is an icon which to the right of it says "Control
Panel". Why would control panel be there? I don't ever remember seeing control panel listed there. I
think somehow it got moved. The first thread was 11-9-04 5:36 Pm.
Can anyone help me on this? sorry for adding a new thread. Will appreciate your help, this is driving
me nuts. Would it be better to just Restore back to just before I upgraded to SP2?
Thanks alot,
Daj

There are some spyware programs that block/freeze Control Panel. Run Ad
Aware SE and Spybot: Search and Destroy. These should fix your problem.

I have checked for control panel at these places and found no instance of "control panel" in anyone of
these locations. C:\windows\windows32, c:\windows\system32\dllcache c:\windows. can I copy the folder
in win explorer to these folders and delete the folder in win explorer? or am I mixed up?
Thanks for your help.

Have you checked out this link?

Control Panel stops responding in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;843551

You will not find Control Panel, its real name is control.exe. Starting
control.exe opens the Control Panel. Providing that it works.

Yes you could copy it using Ctrl + C. But it won't do any good. That
Control Panel is a shortcut to control.exe.

Try this...

Click the Start button | Click Run | Type: control | Click OK |

What happens?

No one here has any clue what you are on about. Just because you've read your original post most here aren't that motivated (it would probably take me 10 minutes to find).

After SP2 I got control panel icon in WO and control panel freezes sometimes more often than not. I
don't know how it got in OE and don't know why it is freezing up. I am just trying to get this
corrected. control.exe is not in the correct folders. I have answered all questions. I may have
answered in the wrong thread to add to the confusion.

Not any more. Problem solved.
