Control panel icons don't work

Strange thing happening. When I open the Control Panel
and double click on one of the icons, ie. Display,
System, etc. nothing happens. I seem to be unable to
customize basic features of my computer now. Any ideas
as to what is going on. (Windows XP Home on Dell
Inspiron 5100 laptop)

Possibly 'CWS.Control' Spyware variant has locked your Control
Panel from access.
Info: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html#control
Fix: CWShredder http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip
Close all Browser Windows and running applications, unzip the tool, click on
the executable and follow the prompts.

Report back your findings.

Help! I tried what this person said and now I cannot
access any of my files. All icons on my desktop do not
work...I can a message that says that Windows cannot find
the executable file. I cannot use Windows explorer to
find a file. I cannot even click on an exe file and run
it. When I click on the Word icon the message I get is
that Windows can't find the null file. Can anyone help
me get my computer back? Thanks.

Earl, did you run a scan with a current antivirus (post-2002 version
using updated definitions) first? Unless you are fairly skilled with
the computer, it might be easiest to take your computer to a good local
repair shop (not a BestBuy or CompUSA type of store) and have them sort
it out for you.
