control panel hangs

When attempting to go into Control Panel, my PC will hang for about 2 to 3
minutes. It brings upa a window stating there was an error in kernel32.exe
and it knocks McAfee Virus Scan offline in the system tray. I can reactivate
it with no problems.
I have run full virus scans, spyware etc. scans and have come up with nothing.
Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
