control panel error

Since the most recent windows update, when I hit cntrl-alt-del to open the
control panel, I only get the pane withthe running tasks listed. the tabs,
the menu, and even the whole blue surround with the min, max, and close
buttons are missing. I tried to to do a restore, but none of the restore
points, which are created daily, will work. Any ideas?

Oops, I meant task manager where I typed control panel; unfortunately the
words Task Manager also are not displayed when it opens, hence my mistake!

Peter, you only get the Application pane or Processes Pane in Task
Manager? If that's the case have you checked for
virus, spyware, trojans and adware? You can use these free sites
