Control Panel Classic and Category Options disappeared

Help....today when I opened the control panel the box usually in view on the
left was gone. This box gave me options to view the control panel in
categories or classic . What did I do to lose this panel?... All I now see
when I open the control panel is the classic view screen with all the icons.
No matter what I do the options panel does not come back!.... Help!!..
