control alt delete and task manager problem

M

milton.oshima

Every time I press control alt delete or click on task manager I get
the CPU usage screen and can't get anything else. Also recently, when I
right click on desktop the computer freezes.
Is there anyone out there with similar problems? and a fix for this
problem? Thanks

Double click anywhere on the Task Manager border to bring the menu bar and
tabs back. Do it again to hide them again. Or not. ;-)

Task Manager Menu Bar and Tabs Are Not Visible

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers

Right-click is extremely slow only when Network is enabled

Right click causes an error and crashes Explorer.exe after installing
Windows XP SP2

I am experiencing the same problem. After installing the most recent
Security Updates, when I right click in the open Desktop area, the whirling
hourglass starts, hanging up my computer. Only workaround is CTL-ALT-DEL to
bring up the Windows Task Manager and select the logoff/shutdown function.
Once back up, I have to remember not to right click in the Desktop area
again. Per the Microsoft Update web site, I have installed all High Priority
updates. Is there a fix for this, or will there be a subsequent fix for last
week's updates?

Maybe this...

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

open Office files in the "My Documents" folder.
* Office files that are located in the "My Documents" folder cannot be
opened.
* If you open a file by clicking Open on the File menu, the application
stops responding.
* When you type an address in the Address box in Microsoft Internet

Thank you for the speedy reply. None of the problems discussed in 918165
address the problem of the Desktop area freezing up when a user right clicks.
This is the situation noted in posting today by me, milton.oshima, and
callmecappy. Suspect there may be others. Before posting my earlier
message, I did a System Restore to an earlier date before the updates.
Problem disappeared. Then I reinstalled the updates - problem reappeared.
It would seem that the most recent Security Update has a flaw in one or more
of its fixes.
